Mental Health and Asian/Pacific Americans

 

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Asian American/Pacific Islander populations have the lowest help-seeking rate of any racial/ethnic group. Some of the barriers to seeking mental health care include:

  • Language barriers
  • Stigma and shame
  • The "model minority" myth
  • Insufficient health insurance coverage
  • Immigration status
  • Faith and spirituality
