By declaration of the United Nations, World Autism Awareness Day takes place each year on April 2, beginning the U.S. National Autism Awareness Month. These events seek to increase knowledge, support, and acceptance of people with autism. 2020's theme for World Autism Awareness Day is the transition to adulthood. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder that primarily affects communication and behavior. Autism can be diagnosed at any point in a person's life, but the symptoms typically emerge within the first two years of life. The type and severity of these symptoms can vary.
