Getting Started with HoloLens 2: First Steps

A basic introduction to using the HoloLens2 and some of the educational resources available, designed for the faculty and staff of TCC's Trinity River Campus.

Preparing the HoloLens 2

Unlike many augmented reality systems, the HoloLens 2 is a system unto itself. You do not need another computer or tablet to use the HoloLens 2 - just a WiFi connection and an open space in which you can move around freely, with no obstructions or tripping hazards. However, you must make sure that the HoloLens 2 is fully charged before using it. Thankfully, it only takes about an hour for the HoloLens 2 to become fully charged using the cable and power supply provided.

Click here for full details on device charging.

Once the HoloLens 2 is charged, place it on your head and adjust the fit. If you wear eyeglasses, leave them on. Use the adjustment wheel to tighten the HoloLens 2 around your head. The brow pad should sit comfortably on your forehead and the back band should sit in the middle back of your head. Once the HoloLens 2 is adjusted, click the power button located on the back right side of the back band. Hold the power button for several seconds and release. You should hear a pleasant tone as the HoloLens 2 begins to boot up and see a pattern of swirling white dots in front of you as it is starting up.

Logging In to the HoloLens2

HoloLens 2 Start IconOnce the HoloLens 2 has started, you should see the word Dismiss on a button before you under the swirling dots. Click on this button to load the login menu. You should be given a chance, at this time, to log in with your TCC staff credentials, like any other Windows-based computer.. You may also be asked to connect to the local WiFi, but it should also allow you to choose your own network to continue. You can look at your left wrist at any time to load the Start menu.

IGNORE any requests to do an Iris scan. This can cause a Hololens 2 to become locked to your account.
