I moved to Texas in 2013 from Portland, Oregon, and I'm a true Northwesterner at heart, which means I love coffee, recycling, and rain. I've been working at the NW Academic Learning Center since 2015, first as a tutor and now as the Learning Lab Manager. My background and education are in English language teaching.

I'm passionate about learning support and am a member of the Learning Commons Advisory Panel, which focuses on the creation of a Learning Commons at TCC, the TRIO work team, which focuses on developing robust TRIO programs at TCC, and the North Texas Writing Centers Association.

When I'm not working, I enjoy playing with my two kids, Ezri and Lenora, eating brunch with my husband, shopping at farmer's markets, browsing antique and vintage shops, listening to true crime podcasts, watching documentaries about cults, people watching, and traveling.

Teacher, writer, volunteer, friend, gardener, and animal rescuer, I play many roles in my life. Whether I am volunteering to help animals or tutoring students at Tarrant County College, my philosophy remains the same. Be the change you wish to see in the world.

As an animal lover and outdoor enthusiast, I enjoy watching the wildlife on my family’s country homestead. When I'm not puttering about in the garden or spying on raccoons, my greatest joy is sharing motorcycle adventures with my husband.

I have been tutoring since I was a college student, and I love to read all sorts of assignments. While I enjoy reading rough drafts, I really love helping students get started on assignments and brainstorming ideas.

When I’m not at work, I love hanging out with my family. Whether it’s eating tacos with my dad or weekend trips to my aunt’s river house, spending time with family is when I’m happiest.

I also love to explore parks, antique stores, and bakeries with my boyfriend. And if we’re not in the mood for exploring, we enjoy staying at home, cuddling with the cats, and watching Netflix shows (do you think Carol did it??)

I have been tutoring for about five years now.

I got my bachelor’s in psychology, but I think writing, or at least being surrounded by writing is fantastic for me. A lot of ideas, insights and new people to work with.

I enjoy reading, playing fighting games, NBA2KXX, basketball, and Magic the Gathering. My Saturdays are for Dungeons and Dragons and staying up late.

I’m interested in… well, my hobbies are my interests. I spend a goodly amount of time reading about and trying to improve at the ones that I can improve upon.

I enjoy trying new foods, this is important to mention.

I have been working in the ALC since December 2017.

Before coming here, I worked at two other college writing centers for two-and-a-half years. I got my bachelor’s degree at Southwestern University in 2014 in, fittingly, English.

My interests include comics, cartoons, literature, cats, and Japanese culture. My hobbies are reading, writing, drawing, playing games, and other indoor activities. At any given time, you’ll find me with my nose in a book or in a computer screen, sometimes both at the same time.

I have over 20 years of experience as a teacher and a writer.

I love helping students break down the writing process into manageable steps. My goal is to relieve some of your stress by providing helpful feedback, being a sounding board for your ideas, and offering encouragement along the way.

As a busy mom of 6, you can usually find me cooking for my clan, cleaning up after them, or driving them to dance, basketball, soccer, golf, music lessons and play practice.

When the kids were little and people saw us out together as a family, they often commented, “You’ve sure got your hands full!” I always replied, “Full of good things.”  For sure, it’s a hectic but very blessed life!

I am a Fort Worth native who is currently pursuing an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Texas at Dallas.

I have worked in the Academic Learning Center since 2016, and while I love all aspects of the writing process, I’m especially fond of working with students to brainstorm new ideas.

When I’m not at work or school, I can be found eating TexMex, binging Live PD, rooting for the Rangers, or playing video games (poorly).

I was born and reared in the United States and have spent most of my life in Texas. My experience in education has allowed me to work in several positions as a teacher, tutor, and substitute. When it comes to writing, I love helping struggling students to reach a point of understanding at which they feel comfortable continuing on their own. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, and drawing as well as spending time with my family.

I am from Fort Worth, Texas originally. I moved back to Texas from the cornfields of Ames, Iowa.

I am fascinated by animals of all shapes and sizes, having volunteered at various wildlife and nature centers in Texas and Iowa, taking care of snapping turtles, possums, anoles and other kindly creatures.

I am a writing tutor at TCC Northwest, and I love to nurture student writing.

I have enjoyed serving students at the Academic Learning Center since December of 2018.

I recently graduated from Tarrant County College and can say it was one of the best experiences of my academic career so far! More recently, I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em!). I'm a Government major, double minoring in Sociology and Philosophy of Law. I hope to one day complete a law program and work to improve America's legal system for all!

Outside of work and school I enjoy nature through walking, hiking, and gardening as well as tending to my indoor plants, geodes, and aquariums. I enjoy cooking and baking, and shopping for vintage clothes and home goods.

I look forward to hearing from all of our students, helping everyone feel confident in their abilities, and welcome at the Academic Learning Center!

Laura Lane.

Hello everyone! My name is Laura, and I am an Instructional Aide here at the ALC! I am the first face of the center; I help get you signed in and directed to the tutor that fits your individual needs!

I have always had a curiosity about human nature: why people act a certain way, make specific decisions, or even pick their social groups, but most of all, what influences people to act or make decisions the way they do. I t always intrigues and fills me with wonder to see the wide range of factors--emotional, mental, and environmental--that can sway a variety of different people to do identical or conflicting actions. For that reason alone, I have decided to get my B.A. in Behavioral and Social Sciences. I am wrapping up my A.A. here at TCC NW, and them I'm headed to a four-year university to finish!
