Philosophy (NE): Websites

Word of Caution!

Not all instructors allow the use of internet sites as references.   Check with your professor to be sure you are allowed to use websites for your research.

Websites

Searching Google

When browsing Google remember:

  1. The more specific your keywords, the better your result list will be.

  2. Use available search tools to narrow your results.
Google Web Search

Evaluate, evaluate, evaluate

Keep in mind that anyone can post anything on the Internet.  Use the CRAP method for evaluating websites.

Currency

  • Is it current enough for your topic? (no more than 3-5 years for some topics)
  • Is the data using current information?

Reliability

  • Is the information reliable and accurate?
  • Are you able to find the same information elsewhere?

Authority

  • Who are the authors, sponsors or publisher?
  • What are their credentials?

Purpose/Point of View

  • Is this fact or opinion?
  • Is it biased?
