Recent examinations of AI detection tools, such as those incorporated by Turnitin, reveal substantial concerns regarding their effectiveness and reliability. These tools can mistakenly flag human-generated content as AI-assisted content, particularly for non-native English speakers and neurodiverse learners, resulting in false positives. To preserve trust in academic integrity frameworks in the use of AI tools (like Turnitin) for AI detection, it is important not to rely solely on these tools for the assessment of original student thought and authentic student voice. Disciplinary action referrals are not advisable based only on AI detection tool results.
