TSI Assessment/TSIA2 Exam Preparation

Resources to help you prepare for the Texas Success Initiative 2.0 (TSIA2) exam.

TSI Exam Overview

The TSIA2 is an exam that is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help all Texas colleges know if you are ready to take college level english and math coursework. It has 20 math questions, 30 reading & writing questions, and an essay test.
You do not need to take the TSIA2 if you meet the following requirements:
  • Take the SAT and at least 530 on math for an exemption in math and/or at least 480 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing for an exemption in reading and writing.;
  • Take the ACT exam and earn a composite score of 23 with at least 19 on math for an exemption in math and/or at least 19 on English for an exemption in reading and writing (Test Taken Before February 15, 2023).
  • Earn at least 22 on math for an exemption in math and/or combined score of 40 on the English and Reading tests for an exemption in reading and writing (Test Taken On/After February 15, 2023).
  • Take the STAAR end of course assessment and earn at least 4000 on Algebra II–Level 2 for an exemption in math and at least 4000 on English III–Level 2 for an exemption in reading and writing;
  • Take the GED exam and earn at least 165 on math for an exemption in math or at  least 165 on Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) for an exemption in ELAR;
  • Serve or have served in the Texas National Guard, armed forces, or reserve;
  • Complete college level-coursework at another institution;
  • Enroll in a certificate program of one year or less (Level One certificates) at a public institution.

How to Take the TSIA2 Exam
Please make sure the campus you start the process with is the same campus you continue the process with from beginning to end. If you are taking the TSIA2 for admission to a different college you must apply for admission to Tarrant County College. You must have a TCC ID and email to take the TSIA2 exam at TCC:
  1. Receive a Referral From One of the Following Sources:
  1. Complete your Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) online through the College Board website by doing the following:
  1. Log in or create an account with the ACCUPLACER Practice App.
  2. We recommend using your personal email address when creating your account.
  3. Choose Texas Success Initiative 2.0 Pre-Assessment Activity (TSIA2 - PAA).
  4. Begin the assessment.
  5. Choose Tarrant County College as the institution.
  6. Complete the PAA.
  1. Request an appointment to take the TSIA2 exam at the testing center on the TCC campus you receive your test referral from by visiting the campus specific link below. Both in person and remote options are available.

 

Note: High school students who attended or graduated from a Tarrant County public, charter, private, or home school between September 1, 2023 – August 21, 2024 can take their first TSIA2 exam for free. High school students who attended a non Tarrant county school pay a $29 fee each time they take the TSIA2 test. A $25 fee will be added if you choose to take the exam remotely.
If you take the TSIA2 before enrolling in TCC classes
TSI scores will be available in your TCC student record within 1 business day, in most cases.
If you take the TSIA2 at a different institution and are entering TCC
Contact TCC to request your official scores be pulled from the school where you originally tested. To do this, submit the CIR TSI Score Request Form to Testing Services.
If you take the TSIA2 at TCC and enroll in a different institution
Contact your intended school and request your official scores pulled from TCC.
