About This Collection

The Bideault Family Papers consists of correspondence, photographs, and artifacts recording the history of the Bideault and Moore families from 1918 through the 1970s. The Bideault family of Grapevine was founded by Anthelm Bideault, a French immigrant who established a farm near Grapevine in 1905. Anthelm and his wife Jeanne had six children. The family prospered. Anthelm proved to be an excellent farmer. He established the first successful vineyard and winery in North Texas. A few years after the end of the World War I Anthelm decided to move his family back to France. He purchased a farm near Lyon; the family moved in 1920. The correspondence records the years immediately after the War, the move to France, and the decision of one of the daughters, Henrietta, to return to Texas and marry her fiancé, Bert Moore. After her return to America, Henrietta continued to correspond with her family through the 1920s and 1930s, until contact was interrupted by the advent of the Second World War in 1939.
