GEOL 1405 SE St. Julien

The resources on these pages will help you complete your Environmental Science poster presentation for Rene St. Julien's GEOL 1405 class.

Poster Tips

The key to creating an effective poster is to remember that it must be easily readable from several feet away. More is not always better when you are presenting information in this format.

The video below summarizes key poster tips in just under 4 minutes.

Colors

Even if you use one of the provided poster templates, you can personalize it by changing the colors. The templates are provided in Microsoft PowerPoint, which all TCC students have free access to. If you use the top search bar in PowerPoint to find "Theme Colors", PowerPoint will provide you with a variety of color palettes. Everyone's artistic eye is a bit different, but make sure your text is visible against the background by checking the contrast of your colors.

Graphs and Data Tables

Presenting visual data well has a bit of a learning curve. If you want to create your own tables, graphs, or charts, create them first in Microsoft Excel and then copy and paste them into your PowerPoint poster. This will let you redesign as needed without impacting the rest of your poster. The library database Statista will let you download both Excel files and completed graphs and charts. Please see the Finding Research page for links and advice on the best library databases for visual materials.
