What are Open Educational Resources (OER)?

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are an important part of TCC’s vision to be the leader for academic excellence, student success, and economic impact. OERs enhance access and support for student success by connecting students with barrier-free course resources.

OERs are:

  • Educational materials such as textbooks, assignments, images, and videos
  • Usually licensed to be customizable by each instructor and shared with other instructors
  • Free for students, saving them the cost of a textbook (students may incur a printing charge if they choose a paper copy)

Most OERs can be linked directly in your Canvas class, which means your students have immediate access to them. Since they are using their TCC log in, access and technical problems should be minimized.

This guide contains selected lists of sites to search for pre-made OERs and supplementary resources provided by TCC. This is not a comprehensive list of resources; these are "best bets" chosen by OER users.
